This is my sixth grand opening. As of Dec 9th I've been to eight stores. Click on my Tadd's Apple Store home for pix of other stores.
The attendance to this opening wasn't very good compared to other stores I've been to but it is only about 10 miles from another Apple Store at Tice's Corner.
My technical mistake for this store opening (there has to be one per store!) was that I spent too much time playing with my new camcorder and not enough taking still pictures. Further I missed some important shots with the camcorder! The movie is great though and worth a viewing if you have the bandwidth to download it.
News! I got a new camcorder (oh yes, you knew that). I made a movie of my adventures of December 8th and that's located here:
Palisades Center Mall is at exit 12 of Interstate 87 about 20 minutes north of New York City. The mall is only about 10 miles from the Tice's Corner Apple Store but is much easier to find and much more likely to be visited by random shoppers or people coming from out of the area. Anybody heading from New England to points west or south, or anybody coming from eastern New York State to points south can visit this mall and go only a few minutes out of their way.
The mall is a four story huge mall built in a rather industrial style with exposed cement ceilings, pipes, and exposed beams. It includes an iMax movie theatre, amusement park, and many stores you'd usually not expect to be part of a mall, a Comp-USA for instance.
It has underground parking as well as outdoor parking, direct access to Interstate 87, and is wihin 10 miles of 4 four lane parkways, Interstate 287 and Interstate 87.
Above you can see the four separate levels. They are linked by banks of 3 glass elevators that run all the way through the four floors and down to the parking lot below. Below you can see the food court. I took the photo from the top of the ferris wheel. Photos from June 2000.
The Apple store is on the bottom floor (the entrance to the mall is on the 2nd floor above it) and is across the large passage way from the RainForest Cafe.

The following page has the pictures I took before and after the store opening. I had somewhat less than my usual showing of photos because I was playing with my new camcorder and paying less attention to the photos. I definitely recommend my movie (link above) if you have the bandwidth to support it.
